People and businesses affected by devastating wildfires in Los Angeles may qualify for state disaster tax relief.
“California is taking action to provide relief to state taxpayers affected by these devastating fires,” Governor Gavin Newsom said. said in a press release on Sunday. “The people of Los Angeles County have suffered an unimaginable tragedy, and the state will continue to do everything it can to help these communities.”

Taxpayers in LA County should postpone the filing date of their 2024 California tax returns to October 15. Tax payments due from January 7 to October 15 will be available till that date.
“Our state is facing one of the most devastating wildfires in recent history, one that has claimed lives, displaced thousands of families, and devastated entire communities,” State Comptroller and FTB Chief Malia Cohen said in a news release.
Postponement applies to:
- Tax returns and payments are usually due on April 15.
- Quarterly tax payments are usually due on January 15, April 15, June 15 and September 15.
- Businesses whose corporate or pass-through company tax returns are usually due March 15 and April 15.
- The pass-through company has to pay the selected tax usually on 15th March and 15th June.
- A tax-exempt company usually files its returns on May 15.
