Trump expected to survey Los Angeles-area wildfire damage next week – Jobsmaa.com

US President-elect Donald Trump will visit the Los Angeles area next week to view the damage from the wildfires, he said on Saturday. It will be his first trip outside the nation's capital since taking office on Monday.

“I will, probably, be over the weekend. I was actually going to go yesterday, but I thought it would be better if I went as president,” Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker in a phone interview. “It's a little more appropriate, I suspect.”

Trump's representatives did not respond to requests for comment Saturday.

Asked if he would sign disaster relief for the region after taking office, Trump said his answer would be conditional on requesting policy changes in California.

Asked if he had spoken to Gov. Gavin Newsom, whom Trump has called to resign over his wildfire response, the president-elect said he had not.

The governor's office said the president-elect's replacement committee acknowledged receipt of the invitation but did not respond.

“As per our invitation, we hope Trump will come to California to see the disaster, meet with firefighters and survivors, and get the facts instead of shooting from the sidelines,” the governor's office said in a statement Saturday.
