Los Angeles firefighters battled a small brush fire in Griffith Park Monday afternoon.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire broke out around 1 p.m. and has burned half an acre. Firefighters responded to the scene south of Griffith Labs. Smoke could be seen from Hollywood.
The helicopters produced water drops, which significantly reduced the fire.
An “extremely hazardous situation” wind warning is in effect for most of Los Angeles County and Ventura County from noon Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday — an unprecedented fifth time the National Weather Service has issued a warning for severe fire conditions this season.
Wind gusts of 50 mph to 70 mph are possible along the coast and valleys, while sustained winds are expected to be between 25 mph and 40 mph. Isolated gusts of 100 mph are possible in the mountains and foothills, while sustained winds of 30 mph to 50 mph are possible, said Rose Schoenfeld, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Oxnard.
