The US Environmental Protection Organization's plan to open a site to process the Eaton Debris La County's footsteps have been afraid of a rapid setback from nearby local leaders to cause toxic waste in their backyard.
On Monday, Duve, Asusa, Irrindale and Baldwin Park were announced Collaborate For EPA's plans to use Laro Park as a place for hazardous household debris from fire, including lithium -ion batteries for electric vehicles. The site is at 15701 E. FOUTHILL BLVD. In the County's uninhabited area of four cities, the trash is about to begin next week.
Leaders said they were saddened by the dangers of residents and that they were not consulted on the decision.
“We are very disappointed because our locals are not respectful of the toxic substances transported to our backyard,” said city leaders in a joint statement.
Federal officials say that the EPA has appointed the Laro Park as a processing site on Thursday, and has already prepared the site to begin to accept waste. They said measures have been taken to control the leaks around the areas where debris processed.
Once the site is opened, federal officials say that the debris is brought daily, processed in various waste streams, compiled and disposed of for the ship.
EPA Coordinator Tara Fitzgerald said that a similar processing site for policies fire garbage is planned for six acres east of the Pacific Coast Highway near Topanga Canyon.
La County Supervisor Hilda Solis, representing the basement communities, said that he was deeply concerned with the health and environmental risks that the Laro Park would be presented.
“The risks associated with dangerous materials, especially lithium electric vehicle batteries, are very flammable and cause environmental pollution risks,” he said in a statement. “The removal of these items should not come at the expense of creating a toxic environment for communities that have already been affected by pollution.”
EPA said it would take steps to ensure security on the site. These include air quality monitoring, use of water truck to suppress dust and emission, and a continuous environmental test of the site.
The truck carrying waste will use the rear roads of the firefighter to access the lorry park and not travel on the 210 freeway. Once the material is processed, trucks approved by the State Transport Department will be used to carry goods to permanent removal facilities.
The four base cities are California State Sen.
On Monday morning, Solis was asked to raise “important questions” with EPA representatives with representative Kill Sisneros (T-Kovina) and local leaders on Monday morning.
“We continue to learn about the plans of operations,” I urge our federal organizations to know our federal organizations well in our communities and alleviate these impacts. “
