Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) Notification 2026 has been released on 20 March 2026 on the official website www.ichr.ac.in. A total of 80 fellowships have been announced through the ICHR JRF 2026.
Candidates who have registered for Ph.D. Programme in historical studies at recognized universities are eligible to apply. The selected fellows will receive a fellowship of ₹17,600/- per month with a Contingency Grant of ₹16,500/- per annum for a period of Two years (extendable up to one more year without financial commitment under special circumstances). Candidates who have registered in recognized universities for Ph.D. Programme in historical studies (Ancient / Medieval / Modern India) are eligible to apply for the ICHR Junior Research Fellowships (JRF).

- Fellowship: Rs.17,600/- (Rupees Seventeen Thousand and Six Hundred only) per month
- Contingency Grant: Rs.16,500/- (Rupees Sixteen Thousand and Five Hundred only) per annum
- Period: Two years (extendable up to one more year without financial commitment under special circumstances)
Selection Process
- Stage-I: Online Entrance Test (100 Marks – 100 objective questions, no negative marking)
- Stage-II: Presentation-cum-Interview (60 Marks)
- Final Merit: 100 (Stage-I) + 60 (Stage-II) = 160 Marks
General Information/Instructions
- The Fellowship is a whole-time engagement for research work and cannot be combined with any other whole-time or part-time work.
- Maximum 80 JRF to be awarded applying usual reservation for SC, ST & PwD.
- All applicants should apply through proper channel (recommended by Research Supervisor and forwarded by Head of Department/Centre/Principal).
- Ph.D. Registration Certificate is mandatory at Stage-II.
- Incomplete applications or applications received after the prescribed date will be rejected.
- ICHR reserves the right to fix screening criteria, increase/decrease number of fellowships or not to award any fellowship.
