Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), Academic Section, has released the Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP) 2026 notification vide No. IITD/Acad/2026/ dated 13.03.2026. The fellowship provides an opportunity for exceptionally qualified Undergraduate and M.Tech/M.E. students from different engineering institutes across India (except IIT Delhi) to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of IIT Delhi faculty. Only those students who are within the top ten ranks in their respective programme/branch are eligible to apply.
The fellowship is for a duration of 8 weeks during the Institute vacation period from 13 May 2026 to 13 July 2026 and provides a stipend of ₹2,000/- per week along with travel support (Train-Sleeper class) and free boarding and lodging in IIT Delhi hostels. The online application portal is open from 16 March 2026 to 03 April 2026 (17:00 hours) at https://oldacademics.iitd.ac.in/srf/main.php. Hard copy submission is not required.

The application guidelines and online application form are available on the IIT Delhi academics portal. Candidates are advised to read both the notification and the application guidelines carefully before filling the online form. Hard copy of the application need not be submitted; however, selected candidates will have to produce original documents at the time of joining.

IIT Delhi SRFP 2026 – Eligibility Criteria
Students from all engineering institutes across India except IIT Delhi are eligible to apply. The eligibility criteria differ for Undergraduate and M.Tech/M.E. students as follows.
Note: Students currently studying at IIT Delhi are not eligible to apply regardless of their rank or programme.

Documents Required for Online Application
Candidates must keep the following scanned documents ready before starting the online application. All uploaded documents must be clear and legible; applications with unclear or missing documents are liable to be rejected.
Note on NOC: The No Objection Certificate must be from the parent institution and should clearly state the starting and ending date for carrying out full-time research work at IIT Delhi under the fellowship programme.
Important Instructions
- Applications must be submitted online only through the official portal at https://oldacademics.iitd.ac.in/srf/main.php. Hard copy of the application need not be submitted to IIT Delhi.
- The online application portal will be open from 16 March 2026 to 03 April 2026 by 17:00 hours. Applications not submitted by the deadline will not be saved in the database and will not be considered.
- Candidates must register on the portal before filling the application. Remember the chosen username, password and security question answer as these will be required for future logins and password recovery.
- All fields marked with an asterisk (*) in the application form are mandatory and must be filled correctly.
- Once the application form is submitted, no changes can be made. Candidates must carefully verify all information before clicking Submit.
- The rank mentioned in the application must be the position in the whole discipline/branch in the preceding year/semester. The rank certificate uploaded must confirm this.
- If CGPA grading is used, candidates must select the correct scale (out of 4, out of 10 etc.) and enter the CGPA up to 2 decimal points. If percentage is chosen, enter marks up to 2 decimal points.
- The No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the parent institution must explicitly mention the starting and ending dates for carrying out full-time research at IIT Delhi under the fellowship. Applications without a valid NOC are liable to be rejected.
- All uploaded documents (photograph, grade card, rank certificate, NOC) must be clear and legible. Unclear or smudged documents will lead to rejection of the application.
- The candidate need not pay any Institute registration fee at IIT Delhi during the fellowship. They will be registered as a visiting student.
- The selected student must arrange personal insurance covering accident and accidental death for the entire period of stay at IIT Delhi. The insurance charges are to be borne by the student.
- Only students from engineering institutes other than IIT Delhi are eligible to apply. IIT Delhi students are not permitted to apply under this fellowship programme.
- The list of selected students will be displayed in the first week of May 2026 on the IIT Delhi website. Selected candidates will have to produce all original documents (grade card, rank certificate, NOC etc.) at the time of joining.
- The Area of Interest (broad topic/keywords) must be mentioned in a maximum of 200 characters and the Statement of Interest in a maximum of 1,000 characters (both inclusive of spaces).
- The fellowship period is strictly during the Institute vacation, i.e. from 13 May 2026 to 13 July 2026. Candidates must ensure their availability for the entire 8-week period before applying.
How to Apply for IIT Delhi Summer Research Fellowship 2026
- Visit the official online application portal at https://oldacademics.iitd.ac.in/srf/main.php.
- Click on “Register Me” to create a new account. Choose a valid username, set a password, enter a valid email address and select a security question. Note down your username, password and security question answer for future reference.
- Log in using your registered username, password and the security key shown on screen.
- Fill in all mandatory fields in the online application form: Personal Information, Current Mailing Address, College Educational Information (institution name, programme, discipline, marks/CGPA, rank and class size), Research Interest (department, area of interest, statement of interest), and Other Academic Achievements.
- Keep the following scanned documents ready before proceeding to upload: Photograph (JPG, max 100 KB), Consolidated Grade Card (PDF, max 2 MB), Rank Certificate (PDF, max 2 MB) and No Objection Certificate from parent institution (PDF, max 2 MB).
- Upload all required documents using the respective upload links provided on the documents page. Preview and verify all uploaded files before final submission.
- Click Submit to finally submit the application. Once submitted, no changes can be made. Save the PDF confirmation shown on screen for future reference.
- Hard copy of the application need not be sent to IIT Delhi. However, original documents must be produced at the time of joining if selected.
