WBPSC Librarian Eligibility Criteria 2026
Candidates must satisfy the WBPSC Librarian eligibility criteria 2026 in terms of education, experience, age limit, Bengali language and nationality as on the closing date.
- Educational Qualification (Essential): (i) A Master’s Degree in Library Science of a recognized University or its equivalent, OR (ii) A Second Class Master’s Degree in any subject other than Library Science + Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science of a recognized University or its equivalent.
- Experience (Essential): Two years’ experience in Library work in a Public or Institutional Library of repute.
- Bengali Language: Good power of expression and communication in Bengali (or Nepali) and English – Spoken and Written (ability will be tested at the time of Interview).
- Desirable: Knowledge of Computer based cataloguing of books and their publications and distribution.
- Age Limit: Not more than 36 years on 01.01.2026 (relaxable for persons with higher qualifications/longer experience and for Departmental candidates).
- Nationality: Only Indian Citizens and others declared eligible by Government of India.
WBPSC Librarian Salary 2026
Selected candidates will be appointed in Pay Level 16 of the Pay Matrix under WBS (ROPA) Rules, 2019.
- Pay Scale: Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,44,300/-
- Besides pay, the post carries all admissible allowances as per rules.
WBPSC Librarian Application Fees 2026
- Rs. 210/- (Rupees two hundred ten only) + applicable service charges through online mode only.
- Exempted: S.C./S.T. candidates of West Bengal and Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) having physical disability of 40% and above.
- OBC candidates of West Bengal are required to pay the full fee.
- No fee exemption for S.C. & S.T. candidates of other States.

WBPSC Librarian Selection Process 2026
The selection process consists of Screening Test (if number of applications is large) followed by Interview.
- Screening Test (if conducted): MCQ type – used only for shortlisting candidates for Interview. Marks obtained in Screening Test will NOT be considered for final merit.
- Interview: Qualifying marks – 40% for UR category. Candidates who fail to secure qualifying marks will not be considered.
- Final selection will be made on the basis of performance in the Interview subject to verification of all eligibility documents.
- Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali will be tested at the time of Interview.
