BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 – Vacancy Details

A total of 122 vacancies have been announced for the post of Havildar Instructor (Level-4) in the Bihar Home Guard Service Cadre. These are distributed across various reservation categories with 35% horizontal reservation for women within each category. The 35% horizontal reservation is applicable only to women who are original residents (Mool Niwasi) of Bihar State.

Freedom Fighters’ Descendants Reservation: 2% of total posts = 02 posts (reserved for grandchildren/great-grandchildren of Bihar State freedom fighters who receive pension from Central Govt.)

BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill all eligibility conditions as on the cut-off date 01-08-2025. Indian citizenship is mandatory. Male, Female and Third Gender candidates can apply. The benefit of any reservation (including 35% women reservation) is admissible only to original residents (Mool Niwasi) of Bihar State. Candidates from other states belonging to reserved categories will be treated as Unreserved/General candidates.

BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 – Application Fee

Candidates applying for the post of Havildar Instructor are required to pay a non-refundable examination fee as specified below. The fee must be paid online through the BPSSC application portal via Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI. Bank charges for using Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking will be borne by the candidates. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Applications for which fee has been charged back by the bank will be rejected and legal action may also be taken.

BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process

The selection process for BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 consists of 2 (two) successive stages – a Written Competitive Examination of 100 marks (MCQ/Objective type, 2 hours) and a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) of 100 marks. The written examination is only qualifying for the PET; the final merit list will be based solely on marks obtained in the Physical Efficiency Test.

Candidates scoring less than 30% marks in the written examination will be disqualified from the Physical Efficiency Test. Based on written exam marks, candidates equal to 5 (five) times the number of vacancies for each reservation category will be shortlisted for PET. The appointing authority for selected candidates is the Commandant, Bihar Home Guard, Patna.

Stage 1 – Written Competitive Examination

Each correct answer carries 1 mark. Minimum qualifying marks: 30%. The written exam is qualifying only – not the basis for final merit list.

If examination is held in multiple sessions/shifts, normalized marks will be calculated using Equi-Percentile Method. OMR answer sheets (carbon copy) will be retained for one year after final selection list is published.

Stage 2 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Total 100 Marks

Physical Efficiency Test standards and process are the same as those prescribed for the post of Constable in Bihar Police. PET consists of three events – Running, Shot Put, and High Jump. Candidates must qualify each event separately. Only 3 chances are given for Shot Put and High Jump.

(A) Running – Maximum 50 Marks

Male candidates exceeding 6 minutes and Female candidates exceeding 5 minutes will be declared disqualified.

(B) Shot Put – Maximum 25 Marks

(C) High Jump – Maximum 25 Marks

How to Apply for BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026

Applications must be submitted online only through the BPSSC website. Hard copy of applications need not be sent to the Commission. Candidates should visit https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in and click on the “Home Guard” tab, then click the link related to Advt. No. 05/2026 to begin the application process. Only one online application can be submitted per candidate. If multiple applications are submitted by a candidate, all will be rejected and legal action may also be taken.

The online application is filled in two parts. In Part 1, candidates register with their name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, domicile, reservation category, gender, and date of birth, followed by fee payment. After successful payment, Registration ID and Password are sent via SMS and Email. In Part 2, candidates fill in father/husband name, mother’s name, address, educational qualifications, upload photograph and signature, and finally submit the application.

Photo and Signature Upload Requirements:

  • Photograph: Colour, taken within last 2 months, white background, between 15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format
  • Signature: In English and Hindi (black or blue ink), separate, white background, between 15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format
  • Non-compliance with photo/signature instructions will result in rejection of application

Candidates must keep a valid and active mobile number and email ID (preferably registered in their name) as all important communications including hall tickets will be sent via SMS and Email throughout the recruitment process.

Important Instructions for BPSSC Havildar Instructor Recruitment 2026 Candidates

  • Date of Birth will be calculated strictly as per Matriculation or equivalent certificate.
  • Married/divorced/separated female candidates applying under reserved category must submit caste certificate based on their father’s caste (not husband’s), as caste is determined by birth, not marriage.
  • EWS certificate must be based on income and assets for financial year 2025-26 as per prescribed format from General Administration Department, Bihar.
  • The selection process may take approximately 6 months. No extension will be granted for any reason (personal, medical, pregnancy, fracture, etc.) at any stage.
